Avoid the cyber dating stalker trap

Some people are just rude. They say they will call but they don’t. You expect a call to relive the date you have just enjoyed but the call doesn’t come. So after a day you start to text and leave voice messages. Nothing, and so you look them up on myspace and facebook and bingo there they are. You add them as a friend but still nothing and so you start to interact with their friends and ask questions. You are now obsessed, disappointed and just plain angry. All this because some blockhead didn’t want to date again and bottled telling you.

Personally, I abhor rude people and figure that spending any time with them is time wasted. Do the same. Don’t chase and move on to find a person with better manners. Anything is better than becoming a cyber stalker.

This is a wierd one that I come across time and again. We all say that money doesn’t matter but for most of us it does. You spend all your life making decisions and you have a certain material worth. Along comes a charming person who is potless and you ask yourself  ‘is it me or is it my worth?’. I don’t know the answer but I would suggest that you look at what the other person brings to the party materially before jumping in.

She was called Lorraine and she used to sit on the top step of her parents house in the summer. Always pretty in a summer frock she would smile at me as I passed. Me on my way to play football with my mates and her with plans unknown. I liked her but aged eleven, you don’t ask people out directly. As instructed, Sue broached the exciting idea of going to the cinema matinee with me to Lorraine. Lorraine said yes and without having spoken we arranged to meet at 1pm on a Saturday.  Me being a boy, I told everybody and passed on the unwanted extra comment that we would be on the back row.

Now the news of our impending grapple found it’s way back to Lorraine and she left me standing on the steps of the cinema rather than the dreadful alternative.

I met Lorraine again after decades away, at a friends reunited school do. She didn’t remember the incident but did apologise if it had blighted my life! Now as then, Lorraine has class.

Do it too quick (a bit of  ‘how’s your father’) and you are missing out on the chance to get to know the other person emotionally first. It’s amazing what a barren spell inbetween the sheets allied to a bottle of wine will do to speed up time for people. I can’t believe I am actually writing this stuff seeing as my record from first meeting to bed was 15 minutes and that included a bag of fish and chips! Still, I guess that time makes you more sensible and now I am positively over the hill, I reserve the right to preach a bit. A good rule by the way is not to go to bed with someone until you know them enough to remember their middle name.   So the people without a middle name are getting nothing following that perticular rule. still you cant please everyone!

The days when men were expected to pay for everything on a date have come and gone. It makes a woman look modern and generous to at least offer and be willing to pick up the bill particularly if she has a well paid job. Even if not, then at least offer to pay something even if it’s only for the picnic sandwiches. Men, offering to split the bill makes you look cheap so don’t do it. Times are changing but not that quickly!

Dealing with dating depression

Some time ago, I broke up with the person I loved. I went into a state of lethergy and doubt. The only direction I could look was backwards and life had no joy for me. Friends said that I should live in the moment and stop soul searching. Trouble was that although I knew the advice was correct I could not do what they suggested. Eventually I went to the doctors and he gave me some pills to take. I despise taking pills and have always prided myself on being strong but this time I accepted the advice on offer. Now I feel a lot better about myself and I am off the pills (six month worth) and grateful for my life and all it’s possibilities again.

Sometimes folks, you just need to do whatever it takes to kick start your life again.
